It must be love

Updated: May 4, 2020

January is finally over and hasn't it been a long month but February brings us some exciting dates for the diary. This year I get to celebrate my first valentines day as wife and I'm quite excited. This got me thinking about how I can beautify myself and make this Valentine's even more special.

I often get asked in the salon which is better for women when they are going on night outs, special occasions or even on holiday shaving or waxing and in all honesty both come with pro's and con's and it also depends on the area and pain threshold of each client.

So lets have a look at these pro's and con's first off looking at shaving.

Pro's for shaving:

-Its painless.

-Its cheap & quick

-Can be done at home

-Its clean, hygienic & suitable for delicate skin.

Con's for shaving:

-The results don't last long

-Ingrown hairs

-Leaves skin dry

-Can cause redness, bumps & cuts.

Now its time for the pro's and con's of waxing

Pro's for waxing:

-Its long lasting

-Pulls hair from the root

-No bumps or cuts

-Hair grows back finer & thinner

Con's for waxing:

- It can be painful

-Can be time consuming

-Can leave skin very red

So as you can see there are pro's and con's to both hair removal techniques. Ultimately its entirely your choice which technique you choose to use but for me personal I use both techniques for different areas. However as always with either techniques there are aftercare tips that I would highly recommend you use.

Shaving & Waxing aftercare advice:

-Always moisturise the skin that has been treated.

-Exfoliate the skin that has been waxed (apart from delicate areas such as bikini) as this prevents ingrown hairs.

-Avoid sunbeds or any sun exposure for 24-48 hours after treatments as skin is more sensitive and therefore prone to burning.

-Avoid tight clothing after hair removal as this can lead to irritation.

Avoid wearing makeup if you had any form of facial hair removal as this can cause irritation and could lead to infection with the hair follicles.

With Valentines fast approaching here are my top tips for getting your skin glowing and smooth.

1) Get that glowing skin - Firstly you could treat yourself to a facial and eye treatment or you can buy many wonderful face masks form the high street that can give you a glowing, hydrated look. You can also check out January's blog for more wonderful skincare tips.

2) Smooth lips - The cold weather conditions combined with central heating can be very drying on our lips so we need to be taking proper care of them. Invest in a lip balm or lip care treatment. I really like Primarks over night lip care treatment at at £1.50 its an absolute bargain. There is however, a simple at home treatment that is just lovely to use simply mix some sugar with honey and apply to the lips leave for 1-2 minutes and then wipe away with warm water, the exfoliates the lips removing any dryness so now your lippy will glide on with perfection.

3) Nice nails: Hands up who hates it once you've had your nails done and then you chip on it really is so frustrating so why not have beautiful fresh nails for Valentines and why not add some cute nail designs and add some glitter for extra wow. Remember to use a cuticle nail or cream to eliminate the dry skin around your nails.

4) Be fuzz free - after reading the pro's & con's above and the aftercare advice your hair removal will be all sorted. I certainly feel more confident if I've got smooth, silky legs.

5) Silky smooth skin - Why not give yourself a full body exfoliation, it will help to remove those dry skin cells revealing silky smooth skin. There are so many products out there I do really like Soap and Glory's flake away scrub. I also make my own at home which is very simply olive oil, sugar and lemon juice ( you can also add you own essentials oils if you want). Mix the ingredients together to create a grainy consistency and apply to the skin in the shower using circular motions. Please try it you will be amazed how soft your skin is.

Now your absolutely glowing have an awesome Valentines day what ever you get up to and if you want to treat yourself to a pamper we are offering a great Valentines package
